Avi Young (b. 1999 | they/them) is a queer afro-latinx american artist born and raised in Miami, Florida. Their upbringing was deeply influenced by their vibrant cultural heritage and a passion for exploration. Avi attended the Design and Architecture Senior High, where they combined their love for the arts with STEM-focused programs in marine biology, including work at the Frost Science Museum.
Avi is a former student of the Kansas City Art Institute, where they initially developed their Ceramic practice and further honed their artistic perspective. Since 2021, they have been an associate artist at the Bakehouse Art Complex, contributing to Miami's dynamic creative community.
Through their art, Avi explores the semiotic relationships between materials, often weaving meaning into the textures and forms of their work. They are drawn to the human figure as a subject, frequently depicting individuals from marginalized communities in tender, affectionate vignettes. These intimate portrayals reflect Avi's dedication to storytelling and their belief in art's power to foster empathy and connection.
